The G. Verdi Marching Band was set up in April 1897 by order of citizens interested in music.
Sir Campioni, who is the Montecatini Alto band leader, helped the band's pupils by giving them private lessons for months.
The first concert was held on Christmas Eve 1897. The band was the called Concordia and comprised of thirty musicians.
The first band leader was Sir Pietro Borgognoni from Pistoia, who directed it from 1901 to 1914.
During the years preceding the First World War, the band was very active and it often played in the neighbouring villages.
The band stopped playing during the First World War, but the Twenties and the Thirties were also extremely successful.
Some of the most remarkable leaders were Giseppe da Prato and Raffaello Dori, both famous and respected in the whole of Tuscany. |
